Unit Content

Component 1 –

Students study a broad range of media products from the 1950’s up to contemporary times including: print and audio visual adverts, film posters and trailers, mens’ and women’s lifestyle magazines, tabloid and broadsheet newspapers, video games and radio drama. Through their analysis of these products, students gain knowledge and understanding of the 4 key concepts in Media Studies: Media Language, Representations, Media Industries and Audiences.


Component 2 –

Students apply their knowledge and understanding of the 4 key concepts to an in depth study of 2 music artists and 2 TV crime dramas.
Through the examined topics we also study the historical, social, cultural and political contexts of the set products covered.


Component 3 –

Students apply their knowledge and understanding of the 4 key concepts to produce their own work in response to a brief which changes each year, for example, creating their own promotional materials for a new teenage film.
