Comp 1 (Main theory for the course)


The main theory for the course. Learn how to built a computer, what different specifications mean, what storage devices are available, how networks function, how to hack users and sites as well as the legal and ethical side of Computing.

· System Architecture (CPU, specifications of a computer system)
· Memory and Storage (Ram , Rom, SSD, Magnetic , how to compare storage and memory types, calculations)
· Networking (Internet, WWW, networks, hardware for networks, VPNS)
· Network Security (Network attacks, threats and prevention)
· System Software (Operating systems, utilities and backup)
· Ethical and Legal (Different laws, environmental issues, ethical problems and how digital technology affects our world)

Comp 2 (Main coding and practical for the course)


The main practical part of the course. Learn how to design, code and test real software. Experience programming in Minecraft. Create 3D games using Unity. Code using Python. Understand how software is created for all systems from Computer and Smart Watches to games consoles and smart tv's.
· A large part of this unit will be practical coding and problem solving
· How to produce safe and robust systems
· Breaking problems down “Abstraction, Decomposition, Algorithm”
· Logic (And, Or, NOT)
· Skills needed to be able to create working software from scratch
· Languages (High level, Low Level)

Pupils complete 2 examination papers, both 90 minutes long.

The course is 100% exam and the papers are worth 50% each.
